Sami Farhi

Director, Optical Profiling Platform

Group Leader, Klarman Cell Observatory.

Sami is a group leader in the Klarman Cell Observatory at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, and he leads Optical Profiling Platform. The platform’s goal is to bring next-generation imaging approaches to bear on large-scale biological problems, with a focus on profiling the spatial organization of tissues, high-content optical screens, and all-optical studies of the electrical properties of cells.

Sami was born in Bulgaria and emigrated to the US when he was 8 years old. He got a B.S. in chemical biology University of California, Berkeley, where he worked with Dr. Chris Chang on making small molecule fluorescent sensors for biological copper. He joined the Broad Institute in July 2018 after completing his Ph.D. in chemical biology at Harvard University with Dr. Adam Cohen, working on developing protein and optical tools for all-optical measurements of neuronal activity. In his free time, he like to cook, build furniture, and generally make things.
