MitoCarta Tree of Life (MitoTOL)

MitoCarta was initially a mammalian mitochondrial proteome resource created in 2008 by the Mootha laboratory.  In 2022, the MitoTOL consortium was created out of a collaborative effort across seven labs across the Boston area to experimentally decode the mitochondrial proteomes of six pathogenic protists and the eukaryote Arabidopsis.  The seven labs had diverse expertise—spanning mitochondrial biology, parasitology, mass spectrometry, structural biology, and computation.  The initial MitoTOL work was supported by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute's Emerging Pathogens Initiative and with continued support from Mark and Lisa Schwartz.
