Jonathan leads community-driven standards development for technical and ethical standards as co-lead of the Global Alliance for Genomics and Health's (GA4GH) Data Use & Researcher Identity (DURI) Workstream. The GA4GH standards Jonathan leads or has had a significant role in shaping include:
- The Data Use Ontology (DUO)
- GA4GH Passports
- Data Access Committee Review Standards (DACReS)
- Machine-Readable Consent Guidance (MRCG)
- Standard Clauses for Data Access Agreements (sDAAs)
In addition to these established standards, Jonathan is currently leading design and drafting for potential new GA4GH standards including:
- Data Access Request Ontology (DARO)
- Data Passports
Jonathan has also advised institutions, research programs, and governments on approaches to uphold and bolster compliant data sharing through ever-evolving software systems. A few key initiatives Jonathan has led in this space include:
- Library Card Agreements - a shifted paradigm for institutional approval of researchers via a trust model
- View-Only Data Access Requests - maintaining robust compliance while enabling faster turnaround on data search
- Automated Data Access Requests - leveraging discrete inputs to increase the speed of science, without losing human oversight
