Principal Research Scientist

Brian Haas, Ph.D. leads Computational Transcriptomics in the Methods Development Lab at the Broad Institute of MIT and Harvard, where he has been part of the community since 2007. Trained in both molecular biology and computer science, Brian is passionate about developing tools that make transcriptome analysis more accessible and effective for researchers. He created several widely used open-source resources, including Trinity, PASA, and STAR-Fusion, which support studies of RNA biology and gene expression across diverse systems. His current work focuses on harnessing long-read sequencing technologies to better understand isoform diversity in cancer and other complex transcriptomes.

When not at work, Brian enjoys spending time with his family and pets, watching sci-fi shows, and continuing his long-running (and still mostly aspirational) effort to learn guitar.
